Trucks carrying giant turbine parts caused traffic chaos in Wick today.
Traffic was brought to a standstill as low loader drivers worked with police to try and manoeuvre the convoy of three lorries through the town centre.
Each lorry was carrying a giant turbine blade as it negotiated the town’s Bridge Street, close to the harbour.
The vehicles had to manoeuvre across the bridge very slowly from a roundabout because of the 90 degree turn onto it.
Traffic from the A99 heading south towards the High Street was being diverted via Whitechapel Road.
Two weeks ago traffic light poles and lamp posts in Wick town centre were temporarily detached from the ground to make them easier to remove when the convoy arrived.
Local man Robert MacDonald, said: “The trucks were very big and slow to manoeuvre but they were not stuck on the bridge.
“The street was wide enough but it did cause a long tailback of traffic and it took them almost 30 minutes to get through it.”
Councillor Neil MacDonald, Wick, said: “No one has come forward and complained directly to me about the time of day the convoy went through the town centre.
“There are a lot of holidaymakers at this time of year so more traffic can be held up because of this.”
