The World Caber Championships will take place at Inveraray Games in Argyll today.
The games committee is hosting the championships for the sixth consecutive year.
Famously the most Scottish of sporting feats was won by Englishman Scott Rider from London last year.
The prestigious event in the games calendar attracts the highest calibre of athletes from as far afield as Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada and Germany, as well as the home grown Scottish talent.
The winner will be presented with the Scottish Games Association medal.
The world championship is a true test of skill and physical prowess as the caber used is one of the biggest, if not the biggest on the circuit, measuring more than 20ft and weighing more than 140lbs.
Inveraray Highland Games are held in the grounds of Inveraray Castle, where they are opened by the Duke of Argyll, Chief of the Clan Campbell.
Inveraray and District Pipe Band, recently crowned Grade 1 European Champions, will parade through the town at 10.45am with the main events commencing shortly afterwards.
