A man has been airlifted to hospital with head injuries after his campervan left the road and went down an embankment in Argyll.
Firefighters and paramedics rescued two people from the vehicle after the drama, which happened at about 11am today at Southend on Kintyre peninsula.
Crews from Campeltown Fire Station attended.
Fire service group manager Stephen McGrath, incident commander, said: “Our crews arrived to find a male driver and a female passenger were still inside the campervan, which they immediately moved to stabilise.
“The woman appeared to have minor injuries and was able to leave the vehicle but the man had sustained a significant head wound and was trapped by the steering wheel.
“Firefighters and paramedics quickly developed a plan to safely free him and our crews then used hydraulic cutting equipment to create an opening, which allowed him to be lifted clear.”
After being released from the vehicle the man was carried to an air ambulance and flown to Causeway Hospital at Coleraine in Northern Ireland.
Mr McGrath added: “Our crews and the paramedics worked side-by-side to effect a successful road rescue operation and they were working extremely hard in very hot conditions.
“As well as firefighters and paramedics this incident also involved air ambulance, HM Coastguard and police personnel, and all the emergency responders will wish the very best for those involved.”
