Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team was involved in a six-hour rescue after a walker slipped and tumbled on mainland Britain’s most difficult ridge last night.
Team leader John Grieve said the man, who was in his 30s and a visitor to the area, called for help when he became disorientated after “taking a tumble”.
He had been traversing Aonach Eagach Ridge in Glencoe at around 6pm yesterday when the accident happened.
Mr Grieve said they initially had difficulty locating the man, who was at about 2,900ft on the narrow ridge.
He said: “He sounded a bit confused so we called for a helicopter and the Royal Navy helicopter Rescue 177 attended, but the mist had come down and they couldn’t really help.
“When we got up to him, we found he was unhurt so we got him off the hill.
“We were originally told he had fallen, but it seems he lost his footing and took a tumble, then slid down the hill on his backside.”
Mr Grieve added that the team returned to base at around midnight.
