Peter Matheson leaves John O’Groats tomorrow for a tractor trek which takes in the length of the UK and Scandanavia – then all the way back again.
The death of his friends’ 19-year-old son from stomach cancer last year had a profound effect on the retired policeman and has led to a fundraising challenge, starting at 10am.
Accompanied by faithful Labrador Amber, and Annie, his tractor, which will be trailing a caravan called Michelle, the entourage will be waved off by friends and family.
Venturing south, at a maximum speed of 15mph, he will drive all the way to Land’s End then across the south coast to Dover, before crossing over to mainland Europe.
He will be fundraising for the Tom Bowdidge Foundation, named after his friends’ son, and Mr Matheson, 50, says the sky is the limit for his final total.
