The discovery of a man’s body at the foot of steep cliffs in Thurso is being investigated by police.
Named locally as William Allan, known as Bruce, the 40-year-old was discovered at Holborn Head in the town on Saturday evening.
Thurso lifeboat was called out and helped recover the body, before it was taken to Scrabster and on to Inverness for a postmortem examination.
It is understood that Mr Allan lived alone in a flat in Sinclair Street, Thurso, and had a son Scott, two daughters Paige and Chaise and is also survived by siblings Donald and Linda.
A police spokesman said yesterday: “At approximately 7.14pm on Saturday, August 9, Police Scotland received a report from a member of the public regarding a water incident at Thurso bay, near Holborn Head.
“The lifeboat attended at the incident where sadly, the body of a 40-year-old man was recovered from the water.
“The man’s death is currently being treated as unexplained at this time. A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
