An energy supplier has apologised for a power cut that affected almost 40,000 homes in the north today.
A spokesman for Scottish and Southern Energy Power Distribution (SSEPD) said the company wished to apologise to its customers in the north-west Highlands who experienced an interruption to their power this afternoon.
He said a number of areas, including Fort Augustus, Fort William, Skye and the Western Isles, lost power at 1.20pm.
He said: “SSEPD’s main priority has been to restore power safely and all customers were restored in stages by 3.14pm.
“The cause of the power cut has been traced to works being carried out at Fort Augustus substation, the main link to Skye and the Western Isles.
“No damage has been sustained to the network.
“SSEPD engineers, both in the field and in the company’s Perth Network Management Centre successfully and quickly implemented restoration procedures.”
