Costa Coffee will open its new Oban branch tomorrow despite strong opposition from independent coffee shops in the town.
The official opening ceremony of the cafe in Station Square will be performed by the young members of Oban Pipe Band at 10am.
The coffee giant has moved into the former base of The Whisky Shop.
It was given permission by Argyll and Bute Council for a change of use from retail to food and drink premises despite 25 objections. There was one letter of support for Costa.
Objectors were concerned that Costa would have an adverse effect on independent coffee shops in the town.
But planners said this was not a material planning consideration.
Ian Clark, retail development manager for Costa, said: “We have got a team of 10 in store, all recruited in and and around Oban, so have have a real local team.
“There will be lots of samples of food and drink at the opening.”
