An earthquake shook the remote Ardnamurchan peninsula in the Highlands this morning. The 2.4 magnitude tremor struck at 8.14 am, according to the British Geological Survey (BGS). The epicentre was on the seabed around four miles west of the Lochaber peninsula. The quake was said by the BGS to have been felt by residents at Acharacle. There are roughly 200-300 earthquakes in Britain every year, but the vast majority are so small that no one notices them.
