A two month celebration of contemporary Highland culture gets under way today.
The Highland Homecoming begins with the World Sheepdog Trials, takes in the Inverness Northern Meeting and culminates with the Royal National Mod.
The event will see a huge amount of cultural activity take place in the Highland Capital, from the traditional to the cutting edge.
There are also events taking place throughout the Highlands. The World Sheepdog Trials take place near Tain from Wednesday September 3 until Saturday September 6.
This is the first time the event, taking place at Fearn Farm has been staged in Scotland and it has attracted 240 competitors from 24 nations.
A parade of Highland clans takes place in Inverness city centre on September 12.
The Royal National Mod is returning to Inverness after a 17 year absence. The nine-day spectacular takes place from Friday October 10 until Saturday October 18. Being part of Highland Homecoming has allowed a substantial amount of fringe events to be staged alongside the traditional competitions in Gaelic music and singing.
