Reports of the blaze first came in at around 4pm on Sunday afternoon, July 25. An officer arrived at the scene just afterwards, alongside four appliances from Thurso, Wick, Lybster and Dunbeath. A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesman said yesterday evening the fire had spread to around half a mile. It was brought under control last night, but crews stayed at the scene on a watching brief until around 4.30am. At that point, they were satisfied that the fire was fully extinguished and no hot spots remained.
