A four-year-old boy was recovering in hospital last night after being seriously injured in a fall at a famous castle on the island of Skye.
He plunged from a bridge at the entrance to Dunvegan Castle, in the north-west of the island at around 2.40pm yesterday.
A doctor who happened to be visiting the castle, treated the youngster before an ambulance took him to Broadford Hospital with serious head injuries.
The youngster was later transferred by air ambulance to Southern General Hospital where his condition was described last night as serious, but non life-threatening.
A spokesman for Dunvegan Castle and Gardens said: “Our initial investigations have established that a young visitor to the estate fell from one of the castle water garden bridges into the burn, suffering head injuries.
“Fortunately, a doctor who was visiting the estate at the time was able to treat the injured boy at the scene. The boy was then taken to Dunvegan Medical Centre from where he was airlifted to Glasgow for further treatment.
“The estate is in touch with the boy’s family and we wish him a speedy recovery. We have launched a full investigation into the incident and are liaising with the appropriate authorities.”
He was unable to confirm from what height the boy fell, adding that their own inquiries are ongoing.
