A senior north police officer has promised a high visibility presence in Wick after a suspected sexual assault.
Police are appealing for witnesses after an alleged assault on a woman in a lane in the town centre.
It is understood that a woman reported that she had been raped.
Officers are continuing to investigate the area around Anderson Lane, Kirk Lane, Bridge Street and Harper’s Bar and Back Bridge Street after the alleged attack on Friday, September 5.
They are calling on anybody who was in the area between 9.45pm and 10.15pm to come forward.
Local Area Inspector Nick Clasper said: “I would like to reassure the community that inquiries are ongoing into this matter and Police Scotland remains committed to resolving this reported incident.
“A high visibility police presence will be in the area speaking to members of the public.
“The area where the incident happened on Friday night was busy so I would encourage anyone who was in the vicinity around that time to come forward, even if they don’t think they have seen the assailant or the incident itself.
“Inquiries are at an early stage and no further information is available at this time.”
