A major north house builder has criticised Cairngorms National Park for making changes to a development plan.
Tulloch Homes, who are hoping to build at Carrbridge and Nethybridge, has accused the park authority of doing nothing to encourage new house building in the area.
Cairngorms National Park Authority (CNPA) is currently rethinking their local development plan, with the new version due in February next year.
But Tulloch, who have been working on their Strathspey projects based on the current development plan, claim this is unfair, and have said they will have to “seriously consider” their next course of action, given the “financial outlay involved”.
This week the Scottish Government released a report outlining proposed changes to the Cairngorms development plan, including at Nethybridge and Carrbridge.
A spokesman for Tulloch Homes said: “We are presently working on applications at both Carrbridge and Nethybridge on the basis of the current adopted local plan for both villages.
“This is the only sensible way to approach any planning in the national park, basing it on the existing local plan.
“We have invested significant time on planning issues on both sites over the last 12 years. Now it appears that the information we’ve been provided with in the adopted local plan has the potential for significant change.
“That being the case we would have to consider very seriously our next course of action, given the financial outlay involved.”
He added: “These latest proposed amendments to the adopted local plan will do nothing to encourage housing development which would stimulate significant local employment, in addition to satisfying pent-up demand for housing from local people as well as people interested in relocating to the area.”
Grant Moir, park chief executive, said: “The next local development plan for the Cairngorms National Park is due to be adopted early next year.
“It has been through a thorough examination by the Scottish Government’s department for planning and environmental appeals. We received their report earlier this week, which contains a number of recommendations but is overall supportive of the direction that we are taking here in the park.
“The CNPA is committed to working with developers, communities and others to ensure that we meet the challenges of how to provide appropriate development within the most important area for conservation in Scotland.”
