The funeral of the lorry driver who died after a one-vehicle crash on the A9 Inverness to Thurso road takes place tomorrow.
Bruce Cormack’s HGV left the road at Berriedale Braes, between Helmsdale and Dunbeath, just after 11pm last Thursday.
It is understood the articulated lorry was coming down the steep southern hill brae when it went out of control. That section is so steep that gravel filled escape lane has been built alongside the road for truckers to use if they get into difficulty on the descent.
Police closed the road for several hours after the accident, causing a delay in transporting 28 independence referendum ballot papers from Caithness to the count in Dingwall.
Mr Cormack, 41, from Durran, who was a partner in the family company, Cormack’s Transport, is survived by wife Lynn, his son Sandy, and parents Sandy and Jane.
His funeral is in St Peter’s and St Andrew’s Church in Thurso, at 1pm tomorrow.
Only family flowers are requested with donations, in lieu, being made at the church, to Castletown Community Playground Project.
