Your favourite newspaper has hit the big screen in cinemas up and down the country.
The Press and Journal makes an appearance in the bittersweet comedy, What We Did on Our Holiday, starring Billy Connolly, which was filmed in the Highlands.
As well as featuring a mocked-up front page from the P&J – with the headline “London Children Set Fire to Grandad” – the movie shows off the spectacular natural beauty of the north in all its splendour.
The Grandad in question is the Big Yin – a former resident of Candacraig in Aberdeenshire, and a long-time ambassador for Scotland’s superb scenery.
A popular Highland bakery also makes a special appearance, when one its vans delivers produce for a huge party.
The 75th birthday celebrations for Gordie McLeod – played by Connolly with typical wicked Glaswegian humour – form the centrepiece of what is a funny and poignant film, with many of the best lines delivered by the younger members of the cast.
Tourism bosses are now hoping Scotland will top many holiday-maker’s lists of places to visit after they have seen the movie.
Scott Armstrong, VisitScotland’s regional director for the Highlands, said: “The production crew have done an amazing job of capturing the unique peace, tranquility and breathtaking landscapes of the Highlands.
“I am sure cinema-goers everywhere will be captivated by what they see on screen and many of them will be compelled to come and explore this amazing region for themselves.”
