Christmas is coming, and a special Santa steam train treat in the shadow of the Cairngorm mountains has sold out in record time.
But the elves at Strathspey Railway and Mr Claus have got together to make sure youngsters are not disappointed and have arranged extra runs on the heritage line.
The steam train, which welcomed more visitors than ever before last year, takes the young and young-at-heart through the magical winter wonderland of the Scottish Highlands from Aviemore via Boat of Garten to Broomhill.
Tickets only went on sale in August, and 4,000 Santa Express seats were snapped up by last Wednesday, beating last year’s sell out by several weeks.
This year will also see a 5pm departure on December 13 and 20, giving families an extra special evening experience with Santa.
Journeys will also run at 11am and 2pm at the weekends between December 6 and 24, and will run every day from December 20 in the run up to Christmas.
Santa will be on board with presents for all the railway’s children while the grown ups will be served festive mince pies and mulled wine.
Marketing officer Deborah Quinn said the sell-out was largely due to an online competition for the trip in a private compartment.
She added: “The Santa Express is a fantastic experience and the decision to add these new Santa Express dates was to make sure families weren’t missing out this Christmas. We’ve also added more mince pie special services to our 2014 festive period – so we have more trains than ever before offering amazing wintry experiences over the Christmas and New Year period.”
