Motorists are being warned of an emergency temporary weight restriction on an historic Highland bridge after cracks appeared in the structure.
Following an inspection of the Dulsie Bridge, which crosses the River Findhorn close to Nairn, Highland Council has imposed an emergency temporary 7.5 tonne weight restriction.
The restriction was made on September 29 on the C1154 Cawdor – Clunas – Dulsie – Aitnoch Road at Dulsie Bridge.
All emergency vehicles are exempt.
Alternative routes for vehicles are available using the the B9007 Duthill – Ferness – Relugas Road and the C1173 Belivat – Dulsie Wood Road.
Further work is being carried out to explore what measures can be undertaken to restore the structure.
The bridge was built in 1755 by Major William Caufield and three companies of soldiers.
It crosses a deep twisting gorge on the River Findhorn and carries the once important military road that linked Braemar to Fort George on the Moray Firth.
A repair scheme is being considered by the council’s development and infrastructure service.
