A group of young musicians from Oban High School will travel to New York next year to take part in the annual Tartan Day parade.
The school’s pipe band, Traditional School of Music and choir will march on April 11 next year.
The schools is looking for donations from local businesses and organisations to help pay for transporting their instruments to New York, estimated to be around £14,350.
In a letter going out to local businesses and funding groups, Morven McKerrell, music teacher, explai: “This includes transportation of the instruments, uniforms and additional instrument insurance.”
Each pupil is paying £1,500 to cover their travel, accommodation, meals and excursions.
Argyll and Bute Council’s area committee for Oban, Lorn and the Isles, agreed to provide the group with a letter of endorsement, supporting the plans.
Chairman, Councillor Roddy McCuish, said: “I am fully supportive of giving them a letter of endorsement. This is a wonderful opportunity and a great showcase for not only Oban, but the whole of Argyll and Bute.”
