Plans for a community-owned woodland campsite and events space on Skye have been unveiled.
Broadford and Strath community company, which was set up to improve facilities for local residents, wants to develop an area of forestry to create a 50-acre site.
The attraction would include an open air space for a variety of public events, including music performances and sporting activities.
A new 330-yard access road would be built, as well as new entrance and service buildings and two car parks.
The land, which was sold to the community group for £35,000 in 2010, lies about 80 yards west of the Pairc Nan Craobh industrial estate at Broadford.
A planning application has yet to be submitted but if it goes ahead, the camping area would stretch to about four acres and much of the surrounding woodland would be replanted with native tree species to increase biodiversity.
Alan Duffield, one of six directors of Broadford and Strath Community company, said: “All the land around us is in private ownership, so we decided to buy a bit of woodland and develop it.
“There are not any other spaces like this available. The nearest thing we have is the Highland Council-owned airstrip in Ashaig, which is about three miles away.
“The idea is that we will create different zones for different activities in the whole area, and we want to create an open air space the size of a football pitch.
“There are no campsites in the south of the island, so we are hoping to tap into that.”
Adele Beck, project officer for the development, said: “We have had a lot of consultations and have gone into the youth club and engaged with several local groups, so the plan we have come up with is for things that people want.”
Mary Arnold-Forster from Dualchas Architects, the firm working on the project, said: “We are all working towards a sustainable campsite which also makes money and re-establishes that bit of land and brings it to life.
“We are aiming to source timber locally from Tormore for the entrance and service buildings at the campsite.”
