An Argyll pirate-hunter trapped in India faces being jailed again.
Billy Irving, 34, was held after his ship was boarded by armed Indian coastguard officials in October last year.
He was accused of gun-running, but was cleared of all charges in July.
He and his crewmates were released from Chennai Prison, where they endured horrendous conditions. But they have been unable to leave India because the Indian prosecutor has appealed the decision.
Mr Irving and the six British nationals among the crew now face further detention following the appeal hearing at the Supreme Court in India on October 27.
His pregnant girlfriend Yvonne MacHugh, who went out to visit him in India upon his release, said she had suffered “mental torture”.
She said: “The last year has been a nightmare – there is no other way to describe it.
“Billy was doing great when I was over this summer and we had a blast after his release, but that was when we thought he was getting home at any moment.
“We are having a baby now, which is keeping him going, but he has become a broken man.”
Mr Irving’s family is paying his living costs while he is left stranded in India.
Miss MacHugh presented a petition with more than 144,000 signatures to Downing Street, demanding that the government take action to help their plight.
