The body of a missing man has been found in woods near the Easter Ross town of Alness.
Police have confirmed that the dead man is 58-year-old Mark Burgess.
He was previously reported missing from the Wakefield area after leaving in his car last Wednesday and his body was found at about 6pm last night.
North police issued repeated appeals to the public for help in trying to trace Mr Burgess as it was believed he was in the Highlands, possibly heading for John O’Groats.
Police said today that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.
Paul Daley, Dingwall and Wester Ross area inspector, said: “Police Scotland would like to thank members of the public for their assistance with efforts to trace Mark. Our thoughts are with Mark’s family and we would ask the media to respect their request to grieve in private at this difficult time.”
Mr Burgess’s next of kin have been informed and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
