An SNP candidate has been elected to Argyll and Bute Council with a convincing majority.
Iain Stewart MacLean will now serve the Oban North and Lorn Ward.
The by-election, which took place on Thursday, was called following the sudden death of John MacGregor. The independent candidate died from a heart attack in July, less than two weeks after being elected.
Councillor MacLean was elected at stage four of the voting process, receiving 1,090 first preference votes.
There were 2,664 valid ballot papers and a percentage poll of 33.07%.
Independent candidate Stephanie Irvine received 629 votes, Labour’s Kieron Green 530, and Conservative Andrew Vennard, 415.
A total of 25 votes were rejected – seven were rejected because there was no first preference indicated, 14 because there was more than one first preference indicated, and four were unmarked.
