The A890 Stromeferry bypass in Wester Ross – closed following a serious landslide yesterday – will reopen tomorrow morning.
However, it will close again tomorrow evening and will be closed overnight until further notice, which means motorists will still face a 133-mile diversion during the night.
A Highland Council spokeswoman said work to clear debris from the Lochcarron to Kyle road that was closed between Ardnarff and Attadale has now been completed sufficiently to allow the road to reopen from 7am to 7pm.
She said: “Additional road protection has been put in place and the affected slope is being kept under constant supervision.
“Until further notice, the road will be open between the hours of 7am and 7pm under traffic management.
“It is anticipated that further work will be required in the coming days and this may necessitate further temporary closures.”
She added that emergency services in the South West Ross area remained unaffected by the road closure.
The diversion is via the A890 from Strathcarron to Achnasheen, the A832 from Achnasheen to Garve, the A835 from Garve to Tore Roundabout, the A9 from Tore to Inverness, the A82 from Inverness to Invermoriston, the A887/A87 from Invermoriston to Auchtertyre.
