Christmas has apparently started early in Argyll this year.
A voicemail message on a phone line for Argyll and Bute Council’s communications team today said it was closed for the festive season.
The Press and Journal called the direct line for the local authority’s press office and got no reply, so a call was made to the council’s main contact number.
An automated answering system asked the caller to say the name of the person or department they wished to contact and a request was made for “the press office”.
The call was picked up by a voicemail that confirmed it had been put through to the communications team.
It then said: “We are now closed for the festive season and we will be back in the office on Friday January 3 from 9am.”
A spokeswoman for the council said: “Callers will be pleased to know that the council’s communications team is open for business and will be until Wednesday December 24 when the office will close until Monday January 5, during which time we have an out of hours emergency service.”
However, she failed to give any explanation as to why last year’s Christmas message was still active.
