Crews remain at the scene of a fire in Thurso where a man was rescued from the roof of a building in the early hours.
Ongoing inquiries are being carried out by the police, and fire service, into the outbreak at Bayview Terrace, just before 5am.
A man in his 20s was taken to Caithness General Hospital as firefighters battled the blaze.
The upstairs flat was gutted, with a gaping hole in the roof, while a downstairs property was also affected by smoke, as three appliances were deployed to the scene.
Station manager, Steven Bassindale, said: “Crews were faced with an intense fire and they worked extremely hard to tackle it quickly and effectively.
“The conditions were arduous for the crews who faced extreme heat and thick smoke.”
