The A890 Stromeferry bypass – which has been closed overnight for more than a fortnight – is to reopen tonight.
The Lochcarron to Kyle road in Wester Ross was closed between Ardnarff and Attadale following a landslide on October 28.
It reopened during the day on October 30, but remained closed every night between 7pm and 7am.
This meant motorists were forced to take a 133-mile diversion via Inverness during the night.
However, Highland Council today said slope stabilisation works had now been completed sufficiently to allow the road to reopen overnight.
A council spokeswoman said: “A contractor has been carrying out work to stabilise the slope since Monday November 10 and this has now reached a stage where the precautionary night closures are no longer considered necessary.
“Stabilisation work will be continuing for another two to three weeks.
“The road will remain open throughout the remaining period of the works, but traffic management will be in place to allow the works to progress safely.”
She added that drivers should expect delays between 8am and 6pm on the affected section of road.
