Landmark Forest Adventure Park has confirmed its Runaway Timber Train ride will not reopen following last year’s crash.
Two children suffered minor injuries when one of the carts derailed at the popular Highland amusement park in Carrbridge last August.
At the time, the park said the rollercoaster would remain closed while investigations were ongoing into the cause of the crash. They have since announced that it has been closed permanently.
A spokesman from Landmark said the park was sad to say goodbye to the rollercoaster.
“We are sad to say goodbye to one of our long-standing attractions, the Runaway Timber Train,” he said.
“This was due to be replaced in a few years, but we have made the decision to replace it sooner than originally planned.”
Landmark to replace rollercoaster
Though the park has lost a much-loved attraction, excitement is building for the launch of a new one.
No formal opening date has been announced, but a Landmark spokesman assured the indoor nature of the new attraction would mean it could be enjoyed all year round.
The Landmark spokesman added: “We are still in the early planning stages of finding a suitable new attraction for the former rollercoaster site, but we’re very excited about the possibility of developing a more inclusive, indoor and all year round attraction.”
Staff shortages at Landmark
The Runaway Timber Train isn’t the only attraction that won’t be reopening as normal this year, with Landmark announcing a number of temporary closures due to staff shortages.
Ticket prices have been slashed to make up for the closure of attractions including Skydive, Ropeworx and Pinnacle, with the park hoping they will be able to reopen more from May.
In a statement on their social media, they said: “We are hugely disappointed to announce that unfortunately, we – together with the majority of tourism businesses in the area – are experiencing great difficulty in recruiting new staff.
“As a result of this we are not going to be able to open some of our summer attractions during April.
“This is obviously not a situation we welcome following the disruption of the last two years, but we are continuing to do everything we can to rectify the situation.”
