The quality of care and support a Highland nursery provides to children has been described as “weak” by inspectors and it is has been ordered to make improvements.
The Care Inspectorate highlighted a catalogue of failings in its report that was published today following an unannounced inspection of Rosebuds Daycare at the Hilton Coylumbridge hotel in Aviemore in September.
And it pointed out that this was the second consecutive inspection during which the service – which caters for babies and children aged 0 to 12 – had been graded “weak”.
However parents said they were very happy with the service and intend to submit a complaint about the report to the Care Inspectorate.
In their report, inspectors noted that six requirements for improvement made at an earlier inspection had not been met.
These included ensuring personal plans were in place for each child attending the service and reviewing and improving the medication procedures to ensure the health and welfare of children.
The latest report also criticised the nursery for not carrying out the necessary security checks on staff before allowing them to work at the facility and it said children were not given sufficient support at mealtimes..
A spokesman for the Care Inspectorate said: “We continue to have concerns about this service and are monitoring them closely to ensure they take action to meet the standards we expect.
“We will be inspecting again soon and if we are not satisfied that improvements are being made quickly on the areas we have highlighted, we will not hesitate to take further action.”
Rosebuds owner Julien Rose said: “We feel that what we do and what we achieve is not reflected at all in the report.
“The service we offer is far better than some other places and yet we have been given bottom scores and they have been given higher scores.
“We’ve never advertised, we don’t have a website and yet we have 65 to 70 children on our books and a waiting list because parents are happy and they talk to their friends.”
