The speed limit on a 3.8-mile stretch of the busy A82 Inverness to Glasgow road will be cut as part of new road safety plans.
Scottish Ministers are proposing to lower the limit from 60mph to 50mph on the trunk road between its junction with the unclassified road to Glen Gloy and the Letterfinlay Lodge Hotel, to the north of Spean Bridge in Lochaber.
The plans have been revealed just weeks after two accidents in the area.
On November 13, a man had to be cut free from the wreckage of his car by firefighters after it left the road and careered down an embankment at Glen Gloy. The driver was unhurt, but the road was blocked for about an hour and a half.
The previous day, a three-car crash blocked the road at Letterfinlay. Again, no one was hurt in the accident.
In a statement issued by Scottish Ministers, they said: “Following completion of the speed limit review, Scottish Ministers are satisfied that a 50mph speed limit be imposed on the A82 trunk road from Glen Gloy junction to Letterfinlay Lodge to improve road safety.
“The 50mph speed limit is consistent with other similar routes and is appropriate to the function and nature of the road.”
Anyone wishing to object to the proposed speed limit reduction should write to the Director of Trunk Road and Bus Operations, c/o Sheena Murray, Transport Scotland, Buchanan House, 58 Port Dundas Road, Glasgow, G4 0HF.
The closing date for objections is January 8.
