The former Rockfield Primary School building in Oban was earmarked for demolition to make way for new housing association flats. A huge outcry followed and Oban Communities Trust was formed, with the aim of saving the school. Residents will learn more about plans for the Rockfield Centre on Wednesday. They can visit the Rockfield Hut at Stevenson Street between noon and 2.30pm and 4-7pm, meet members of the trust, and ask questions. The Rockfield Centre could become a workshop for artists and small businesses and provide new public toilets for Oban. It would later develop into a “centre for creativity” with an exhibition space and a cafe. Business plans and drawings are being prepared for submission to Rockfield owner, Argyll and Bute Council, at the end of this month. They will be considered by the Oban Lorn and the Isles area committee in February.
