A teenager found dead on Skye has been described as popular student talented at sports, music and his studies.
Police, mountain rescue teams, coastguards and volunteers mounted a search for William Clarke, known as Will, after he went missing on Sunday.
Earlier today, police confirmed a body had been found in the search for the 16-year-old, from Ardvasar.
Formal identification is yet to take place, but his family have been informed.
Tributes for the young musician have flooded in, with Portree High School leading the way.
Head teacher Tony Breen said: “Portree High and the wider community are deeply saddened to hear the news of the tragic death of one of our S5 pupils, William Clarke.
“Will was a popular member of our school community – he was an active sportsman, a talented musician, and showed great academic success.
“He recently gained his National Pool Lifeguard qualification, and he was looking forward to a career in music technology, which he was passionate about.
“Our thoughts are with his family, and in particular, his mum, dad and sister.”
‘Difficult time for our students’
Mr Breen added that with exams due to start imminently, staff were on-hand to offer any extra support pupils needed to come to terms with the tragedy.
He said: “As senior pupils are looking towards imminent SQA examinations, this will be an incredibly difficult time for our students, we will have staff on hand to support our pupils, providing specific professional assistance to pupils and staff.
“We will support each other through this difficult time and have already drawn comfort from the support and understanding that our school community has offered.”
‘The loss of a young life is a tragic event’
Councillor John Finlayson, councillor from South Skye and Highland Council’s education spokesman, said: “I am both saddened and upset to hear of Will’s passing and my heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends and his school, Portree High School.
“The loss of a young life is always a tragic event and I know it will hit both the Sleat community and also the wider Skye community very hard, both at this time and into the future.
“While I know the local community will offer support to the family in any way they can at this difficult time, the council will also be putting measures in place to support Will’s friends and peers and staff at Portree High School.”
Inspector Isla Campbell thanked all those who were involved in the search for Will.
There are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances into his death.
Insp Campbell said: “Our condolences are with William’s family and friends. His family have requested that their privacy is respected at this difficult time.
“I would like to thank all agencies and members of the public who assisted in the search for William.”
