Friends of stranded pirate hunter Billy Irving have arranged a fundraising event to try to help bring him home.
The Argyll man was held after his ship was boarded by armed Indian coastguard officials in October last year.
Mr Irving, 34, from Connel, near Oban, was accused of gun running, but was cleared of all charges in July.
He and his shipmates were released from Chennai Prison, where they endured horrendous conditions.
But they are unable to leave the country, because the Indian prosecutor has appealed the decision.
Mr Irving, whose partner Yvonne MacHugh is pregnant, has not been paid for a year and is facing financial ruin.
The former crewman of MV Seaman Guard Ohio originally hails from Campbeltown and friends there have decided to hold a fundraising night for him.
The dance will take place in the Vitoria Hall, Campbeltown, on Saturday, January 25, at 7.30pm.
Alix Geyer, one of the organisers, said: “A group of Billy’s close friends have got together to help him financially, because he has not been paid in a year and he can’t work.
“We hope that the dance will also raise the profile of his plight.
“The prosecutors are taking the appeal to the Supreme Court, so he is waiting for a date for that. Hopefully the appeal will get thrown out.
“At the moment he is a free man, but he has not been given his passport.
“This will be his second Christmas away from home, and Yvonne is expecting a baby in February.”
