Drivers have been warned to expect difficult conditions
Motorists are being warned that snow and ice could lead to hazardous driving conditions in the north and north east, starting this evening.
The Met Office has issued a yellow “be aware” warning for snow and ice in the Highlands and Grampian from 9pm today until 6am on Saturday.
A Met Office spokesman said snow showers were expected to continue throughout Thursday night, Friday and early Saturday, giving lying snow above 650ft.
He said: “Some drifting of the lying snow will also occur in the strong winds.
“Icy patches will occur on untreated surfaces. The public should be aware of some hazardous driving conditions.”
He also warned that lightning may be an added hazard in some of the heavier showers.
