Local businesses are being encouraged to find out how they can benefit from Argyll and Bute council’s multi-million pound new schools programme.
The authority, in partnership with Hub North Scotland, is planning new secondary schools for Oban and Campbeltown as well as the new Kirn primary in Dunoon.
The Oban project, which will involve a new school being built at the existing site on Soroba Road, is expected to cost in the region of £30million.
The main contract has been awarded to Morrison Construction but there are opportunities for local companies to get involved either as sub-contractors or suppliers.
A series of “Meet the Buyer” events will be held in Oban, Dunoon and Campbeltown this month.
The council’s education and lifelong learning spokeswoman, Councillor Aileen Morton, said: “We are making a significant commitment and investment in new schools which will bring major benefits for our young people and our communities.
“Through the Meet the Buyer events, we hope to extend these benefits and opportunities to the local business community.”
The first session will be held in Dunoon’s Queen’s Hall on Tuesday, January 20, followed by Oban’s Corran Halls on Wednesday, January 21, and Aqualibrium, Campbeltown on Thursday, January 22.
Representatives of the Morrison Construction procurement team, Argyll and Bute Council, Business Gateway and the Construction Industry Training Board will be in attendance.
Local businesses are encouraged to go along to any of the events which run between 1pm and 5pm. One-to-one sessions are also available but must be pre-booked.
