Welcome to our weekly round-up of planning news across the Highlands.

This week, a hotel in Ballachulish is looking for the go-head to transform a failed former visitor attraction into additional accommodation.

Plans are afoot to build a home on a site of an existing Sutherland building.

And north planners have given the green light for an outdoor dining area at a Fort William bar. Owners can also turn a perfume studio at Achnasheen into a home.

New life for former visitor attraction

Firstly, Isle Of Glencoe hotel has submitted a planning application to transform the former Highland Mystery World’ visitor attraction to form additional bedroom spaces and food and beverage facilities.

Denholm Partnership Architect is representing Freedom Hotels (West) Limited in the application.

The plan is to extend current facilities at the Ballachulish building.

Highland Mysteryworld, a visitor centre experience celebrating the myths and folklore of the north, opened in 1996.

It was tipped to become one of Scotland’s top ten tourist attractions, but optimism was short-lived and it went bust in the early 2000s.

Lochaber Watersports used the building most recently.
