Oban Lifeboat was called out during the worst storm of the winter after receiving a report that a man had fallen from the North Pier.
The volunteer crew attended its first call of 2015 in wind speeds in excess of 55mph at 11.40pm last night.
Stornoway Coastguard had received information that a man had fallenfrom the North Pier in Oban Bay.
Oban Lifeboat was on scene in minutes and began the search for the man immediately.
Iain Fulton, lifeboat spokesman, said: “Searching in such
conditions is a challenging task, however shortly after beginning the search it was confirmed that the man was safe and well. Oban Lifeboat therefore returned to station again by midnight.”
A spokesman for Stornoway Coastguard said: “There was a report of someone in the water, but it was a false alarm with good intent. The man was located safe and well and had not entered the water.”
