The transformation of Oban’s seafront will move a step forward this week with contractors to meet the public to discuss their plans.
Residents are being invited to meet the team who will carry out the carry out the £600,000 makeover.
Raynesway Construction has been appointment by Argyll and Bute Counicl to deliver £600,000 of improvements along Stafford Street from January to May 2015.
A pedestrianised area at North Pier is at the heart of the proposals with new open space to be created to allow people to enjoy the views.
A terraced space to sit, relax and view the bay will be put in place along with an area for open air events.
A shelter featuring artwork and colour-change lighting is also proposed.
An open meeting will take place with the contractors on Thursday January 15 at 6pm in the Caledonian Hotel at 6pm.
This meeting will introduce key members of the construction team to local businesses, with a discussion planned for the proposed phasing of works and how best to minimise disruption during the construction stage.
Any interested member of the public is invited to attend, along with local members, council staff, local traders and representatives of BID4Oban, Oban’s Business Improvement District (BID) company.
Raynesway will set up a site office in the White Building in the week beginning Monday, January 19 once the furniture section of the charity shop is cleared, with the rest of the charity shop operating as normal for the time being.
Oban-based Councillor Roddy McCuish, chairman of the Oban, Lorn and the Isles Area Committee, encouraged people to attend the information night. He said: “I am delighted that the work in Stafford Street will be starting soon and be completed in time for the busy tourist season.
He said: “I would encourage people to come along to this event and meet the project manager and key members of the delivery team. You’ll have the opportunity to see the outline of the proposed phasing plan for the works and to make practical suggestions to the team.”
