A Highland school that was closed due to a dangerous chimney before the Christmas break will remain closed on Monday.
Highland Council previously said Mallaig primary and nursery schools in Lochaber would reopen next week, but a spokeswoman today said this was not going to be possible.
Almost 100 pupils attending the school were evacuated to the nearby church hall on Thursday December 18 when the chimney problem was discovered.
The school remained closed on Friday December 19, which was the last day of term, and it has remained closed since while work is undertaken to make the chimney safe.
A council spokeswoman today said alternative arrangements had been put in place for pupils to attend school on Monday.
She said: “All Mallaig nursery children should go to Arisaig primary and Mallaig primary pupils should report to Mallaig High School at 9am.
“The Highland Council had hoped that Mallaig primary would reopen on Monday, however, works have been delayed further for the health and safety of the contractor’s workforce.”
She added that the council apologised for the delay in reopening the school, which she said had been due to the severe weather.
