It is understood that two people had to be cut free from the wreckage of two vehicles following a crash on the A9 Inverness to Perth road this evening.
The accident happened near Tomatin shortly before 5pm.
A fire service spokesman said three appliances and the heavy rescue tender, all from Inverness, attended the incident.
He said one person had been cut free from one of the vehicles and it was thought that a second person was being released from another vehicle.
It is not yet known whether anyone has been seriously hurt.
The road remains closed in both directions, with motorists being advised to divert through the village of Tomatin.
However, police are warning that the diversion is not suitable for heavy goods vehicles.
