The family of a Caithness woman killed in a cliff fall have said they are “devastated” to have lost her.

Alesha Wright fell 50ft from a beauty spot near Victoria Walk in Thurso on Monday.

Emergency services attended but the 18-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. A 26-year-old man was seriously injured and taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

Police are investigating the incident and have appealed to any walkers who were in the spot at around 6pm to come forward.

In a statement, Alesha’s family said: “We are absolutely devastated to have lost our darling Alesha, who was a much loved daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin and friend to many.

“As parents, the thought of outliving Alesha was inconceivable and we ask for our privacy to be respected as this extremely distressing time.”

Since the news of her death broke, many people have taken to social media to pay tribute to the teenager.

She has been described as a “beautiful soul inside and out”.

Investigations continue

Officers confirmed they were called to the Victoria Walk area just before 6pm on Monday evening following reports of a man and a woman having fallen from a cliff.

Local coastguard teams and the ambulance service were also in attendance.

Police say investigations are continuing and that Miss Wright’s death is being treated as unexplained.

Detective Inspector Richard Baird said: “It is vital we piece together exactly what happened in the lead up to their fall, and we are carrying out a number of inquiries to establish this information.

Victoria Walk is a popular area and I would appeal to anyone who may have seen them walking there, or any drivers who were in the area who have dash-cam footage, to speak to officers.

“I would ask anyone with information or personal footage that may assist our ongoing inquiry to contact officers through 101 quoting reference number 2876 of July 11.”
