Fears that the new roof on Lochaber High School in Fort William has become unsafe in high winds have led to the closure of the A830 Road to the Isles.
A police spokeswoman said the road was closed at around midday as a “precautionary measure” and would remain closed until the roof could be made safe.
Traffic is currently being diverted via Caol.
Head teacher Jim Sutherland said: “The road is closed because a bit of the roof is in danger of flying away.
“The children are safe inside the school and will be kept inside until the wind drops so the contractors can get up there to make it safe, but it is not safe for anyone to go up there to look at it at the moment.”
He added that the builders were still on site as the construction work at the school, including the roof, had not yet been completed.
