A man who murdered his ex-girlfriend and dumped her body in woodland in Argyll is to have his case reviewed.
David Gilroy was convicted of the murder of Suzanne Pilley in 2012
He killed the bookkeeper in the basement of the office they both worked in May 2010 and drove to rural Argyllshire to dispose of her body.
Ms Pilley, 38, has never been found, despite several searches in the Rest and be Thankful area.
Gilroy’s legal team have submitted the case to the Criminal Case Review Commission (CCRC).
If successful, the commission will send it back to the High Court.
His family have asked the commission to look at evidence not available at the trial and legal procedure.
They claimed Gilroy suffered a “serious miscarriage of justice.”
A statement from the family said: “The family remain supportive of David in his work to bring to the attention of the justice system the significant flaws in the case brought against him. He has now spent nearly three years in prison wrongly convicted of a crime which he did not commit.
“The family is concerned at the time which it is taking to get recognition of what they believe to be a serious miscarriage of justice involving faults by all parts of the justice system.
“David Gilroy’s family and friends hope that 2015 will see significant steps taken towards quashing his conviction and ending this protracted period of appalling injustice in all their lives.”
Gilroy was found guilty and sentenced to life with a minimum of 18 years in prison in 2012.
He has since appealed his conviction but it was rejected.
