A hillwalker has been found safe and well after sparking a major search operation in Wester Ross last night.
Several search and rescue teams were called out after the 65-year-old woman was reported overdue on a walk in the Glenelg and Sandaig area just before 5pm
Involved in the search was the Glenelg Mountain Rescue Team, Coastguard helicopter Rescue 100, the Kyle lifeboat and a specialist police dog team.
The walker had been due to return at around 4pm, sparking concern when she did not appear.
She was found at around 11pm by local police officers walking towards Glenelg.
It is understood that she found her planned route to be impassible and had been forced to take a longer diversion.
A police spokesman said she was found safe and well, requiring no medical treatment.
The Kyle lifeboat had been called to search the coastline of Sandaig Bay, later extending their area of search south towards Loch Hourn.
A spokesman for the lifeboat crew said: “The weather was relatively good however it was bitterly cold and as time went on, we began to get increasingly concerned for the missing persons welfare.”
