A low mist hung over Teangue this afternoon, matching the sombre mood of a community rocked by tragedy.
In a day that the west Highlands is unlikely to ever forget, a 47-year-old was shot dead in his home – less than an hour after a woman was stabbed.
Two other people, a local osteopath and a mental health nurse, were also hurt after the gunman drove to their home in Kyle.
Local representatives described it as a “dark day” for the whole of the region, and as the police investigation got under way many spoke of their shock.
Officers responded to three separate calls in quick succession, meaning there were three crime scenes for forensics teams to pore over for clues.
At a property in Tarskavaig, where the first incident unfolded at about 9am, police tape sealed off the driveway to a white cottage at the top of the drive.
Police could be seen examining the scene.
Close-knit community rocked
The scattered community was silent as a low mist descended on the hills around Teangue.
The steep driveway was shut off, with the police tape a jarring scar in the landscape.
Officers patrolled the grounds while forensic teams dressed in white suits, masks and boots went in and out of the white house, overlooking the water.
Family gathered at the property, and could be seen comforting each other.
At the scene on the mainland at Dornie, a silver Subaru was parked within the cordon, and police again were scene guarding the cottage among the trees.
While police remained in the area, tourists and bikers enjoyed the outdoor weather with a cold drink but weather took a turn reflecting the community mood.
One local said it was a “close knit community” which has obviously now been shattered by recent events.
