For those that have always had the dream of living on a desert island, the next best thing has just come on the market as an abandoned Orkney island goes up for sale, complete with its own pod of seals.
The island of Holm of Huip, just north of Stronsay airport, has been put on the market for £350,000.
Only reachable by boat or helicopter in good conditions, the island comes complete with absolutely no running water, electricity, or trees of any kind, never mind palm trees.
With more than 250,000 square metres of land, the lonely island, which is made of red sandstone, is also home to the ruins of two old stone farmhouses from when the Island was last inhabited more than 100 years ago. The owners of the island, Vladi Private Islands, say the building could be renovated or rebuilt in order to make them habitable.
And those wishing to buy the tiny island to catch some Orkney Islands sunshine had better bring their sandals, as most of the beaches are made of slate and stone, although Holm of Huip also boasts a long sandy beach along its southern shore.
Described by the owners as “well-connected” to the mainland by a daily flight to Kirkwall from Stronsay (as well as the boat journey from the island itself to Stronsay), the islands new owners will certainly find themselves with an abundance of privacy.
For those with a spare £350,000 lying around and their eye on the Holm of Huip, the island is for sale through Vlade Private Islands at www.vladi-private-islands.de
