A pilot scheme is underway at the Highlands’ flagship hospital to help patients clearly identify the nurses in charge of their wards.
The trial is taking place across four wards at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness where the nurse in charge of each shift will wear a distinctive red badge.
The move comes after patient feedback on a national uniform policy, which meant the only person in clinical areas wearing navy blue was the senior nurse, suggested there was still uncertainty about who was in charge.
In some cases the feedback did not specify if it was the charge nurse the patient could not identify or another nurse taking charge of the ward in their absence.
If the pilot is a success it could be adopted across all wards in the hospital.
