Police have warned rural property owners in the north Highlands to secure their fuel tanks following a spate of heating fuel thefts.
Thieves have been operating in secluded areas where oil tanks can be easily approached in darkness or under cover of trees.
Farmers, businesses and householders are being asked by police to check the fuel level regularly so you are sure none has gone missing and consider fitting tank security devices, motion sensitive security lights or an alarm.
Householders are asked to be vigilant for suspicious vehicles.
For further advice or guidance on how to protect yourself against such a crime please contact Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
