Welcome to our weekly round-up of planning news across the Highlands.
The region’s planners have approved changes at Alness Morrisons store to tackle cold winds and three high-quality holiday units at a farm.
A Skoda sales showroom is being proposed in Inverness.
And plans have been submitted for 24 two-bedroom cottage flats.
Read on for more details.
APPROVED: Efforts to tackle cold winds at supermarket
Supermarket giants Morrison will build an entrance porch at their Alness store.
They will also construct a new garden centre and trolley bays in another location.
According to a design statement, the porch would be constructed under the existing entrance canopy with new doors at the sides in efforts to reduce the cold winds and drafts, staff and customers are exposed from the Cromarty Firth.
They added: “To maintain suitable circulation to these entrances the existing garden centre and trolley bays would be also removed.”
SUBMITTED: Skoda sales showroom coming to Highland capital
Hawco & Sons Limited is seeking permission for a new Skoda sales showroom in Inverness.
The firm wants to strip out the existing Autoglass UK car windscreen repair and replacement service workshop within Unit 1B on 54-58 Harbour Road to make way for the new showroom.
Work includes replacing the main frontage curtain walling and new external signage to the part facing Harbour Road.
Colin Armstrong Architects is representing the company in the application.
SUBMITTED: Accommodation proposed at £10m Inverness Care Hub
Plans have been lodged to build 24 two-bedroom cottage flats near the site of a £10m Inverness Care Hub which is currently under construction.
Bosses believe the development will provide “much needed” staff accommodation at Leys Square, Milton of Leys, Inverness.
P G H Johnston Building Consultants Limited are representing Parklands Development Limited in the application for proposed flats at unit 4A.
In a planning statement, the consultants said: “Our client’s proposal is not to create market housing but rather ensure that they are able to offer quality accommodation to staff associated with the care home which is currently under construction
“Additionally accommodation will be required for those professional staff members
coming in to run and manage the recently approved 11 homes and soon to commence
construction for later life living located adjacent to the care home.”
The Parklands’ Inverness care hub which is currently under construction is likely to employ around 20 to 25 staff members. Suitable accommodation options would be provided through these plans.
Around 24 parking spaces are proposed at the site.
APPROVED: Holiday accommodation
An existing steading building will be renovated to make way for three holiday units on a farm.
The approved plans are for Achvraid Farm, Inverness.
This site which is 28 hectares is around three miles south-west of the Highland capital.
Red Six Architecture Limited represented Jamie Dolan in the application.
Also a new barn will be built with washing, kitchen, storage space and two offices on the upper level.
According to a design statement, the existing steading is not suitable for modern farming and repurposing will give it a new lease of life.
Mr Dolan bought the site in February 2021. He believes the renovation will provide much-needed high quality accommodation to meet the local demand.
When renovations are complete, it is estimated that three part-time jobs will be created as part of the holiday let operation.
