Highland Council have discussed aspirations to give every school pupil a tablet device for education.
Alness Academy has been the first school to trial use of tablets and has reportedly led to children producing better work.
The proposals were discussed at a meeting of Highland Council’s education, children and adult services committee this week.
However, it is thought substantial costs associated with such a plan could block its roll-out across the council area.
Alasdair Christie, the committee’s chairman, said and expense of buying the tablets should be balanced against the educational benefits and other cost savings that would be incurred by removing other educational materials as a result.
